Arkansas suicide prevention plans and initiatives
The Arkansas Department of Health’s (ADH) Injury and Violence Prevention Section is the designated state agency in charge of suicide prevention. The ADH Suicide Prevention Program works with AFSP-Arkansas and others [should we name some?] to promote and implement educational programs that encourage people from all walks of life to become knowledgeable about suicide prevention.
The Arkansas Lifeline Call Center (ALCC) was established by Act 811 (HB 1775) in 2017, which mandated the establishment and maintenance of a state suicide prevention hotline within ADH. ALCC is one of three 988 crisis contact centers operating within the state.
In 2025, AFSP-Arkansas, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, and the Arkansas Crisis Center co-founded the Natural State Suicide Prevention Coalition. The Coalition brings together multisectoral groups to remember, raise awareness, and strengthen our united commitment to saving lives across the state.
